Current Coastal Rating

Fair · 56

Beta

Conditions are fair, but confidence is reduced because some coastal inputs are partial or prediction-based.

Scores are model-specific and are not directly comparable across water types.

Should I Go?

Trip conditions only. Target-species activity and seasonal fishery patterns are not yet included.

Go

Trip conditions look suitable during the recommended window based on the available data.

High confidence Required data sources were available and the key inputs were current.

Evaluates trip conditions using weather, tides, currents, waves, daylight, and active alerts.

  • Provisional public-Beta coastal rating. Methodology is not formally calibrated.
  • Numeric class: NEEDS_BOUNDED_PRODUCT_POLICY_DEFAULTS. Not an empirical fishing freeze.
  • Does not inherit Northeast or cross-region fishing thresholds.
  • Missing waves are not calm. Forecast is not an observation. Prediction is not an observation.

Fishery Targets

MD DNR fishing reports name striped bass, speckled trout, red drum, and bluefish in the lower Patuxent / lower-Bay mix that includes Solomons. This profile does not encode month windows because available evidence is occurrence-level, not a destination fishing calendar, and does not treat listed targets as typical every-month fishing quality. Harvest seasons are not biological calendars. Seasonal notes, where present, describe typical presence, not a legal harvest season.

This reflects typical biological/fishery timing, not a legal open season. Check current regulations before fishing.

Access, Safety and Regulations

Access

Public shore and boat access is the Solomons Boat Ramp and Fishing Pier at 14195 Solomons Island Road South, operated under contract with the Calvert County Board of Commissioners. Calvert County's dedicated facility page posts a boat ramp open 24 hours daily year-round, a fishing pier open 6 a.m.–8 p.m. Memorial Day through Labor Day and 8 a.m.–6 p.m. the day after Labor Day through the day before Memorial Day, and that a Chesapeake Bay & Coastal Sport fishing license is required for anglers 16 and older. Confirm current ramp fees, pier hours, and comfort-station season before you go.

Primary hazards

Harbor boat traffic, bridge-abutment current, and slick pier decks are the primary hazards. This profile does not change recommendation or rating scoring.

Fishery considerations

  • Currents and waves are unsupported. This profile does not score tides or change the coastal rating.
  • Wind against the Patuxent mouth can chop the harbor.

Regulations

Size limits, seasons, and possession rules change. Verify the current official regulations before fishing.
