Current Coastal Rating

Poor · 46

Beta

Conditions are poor, but confidence is reduced because some coastal inputs are partial or prediction-based.

Scores are model-specific and are not directly comparable across water types.

Should I Go?

Trip conditions only. Target-species activity and seasonal fishery patterns are not yet included.

Wait

Trip conditions may improve later. Review the recommended window and the reason for waiting.

High confidence in the evaluated inputs — observational coverage is partial. Required data sources were available and the key inputs were current.

Evaluates trip conditions using weather, tides, currents, waves, daylight, and active alerts.

  • Provisional public-Beta coastal rating. Methodology is not formally calibrated.
  • Numeric class: NEEDS_BOUNDED_PRODUCT_POLICY_DEFAULTS. Not an empirical fishing freeze.
  • Does not inherit Northeast or cross-region fishing thresholds.
  • Missing waves are not calm. Forecast is not an observation. Prediction is not an observation.
  • Verdict capped at Consider while calibration remains incomplete or evidence is limited.

Fishery Profile

Fishery Overview

Brookings / Chetco River bar and harbor fishery

A Curry County south-coast harbor, jetty, and Chetco tidewater fishery at Brookings. Honest catalog targets are lingcod and redtail surfperch, plus Chinook when current ODFW ocean-salmon tables are open. Rockfish are relevant on jetties and from boats but are not a StrikeTracks species-selector ID. This is not USGS Chetco River near Brookings 14400000 and not Crescent City Harbor.

Fishery Targets

Jetty and harbor bottomfish and surfperch are described as generally available subject to current ODFW Marine Zone rules. Ocean Chinook, coho, and Pacific halibut are quota- and season-managed — check current Marine Zone pages rather than freezing an in-season closure.

This reflects typical biological/fishery timing, not a legal open season. Check current regulations before fishing.

Access, Safety and Regulations

Access

ODFW names Port of Brookings and South Jetty and Pier, Chetco River, as south-coast marine shore access. Southwest Zone: Chetco estuary has very little bank access. Catalog coordinates are NOAA 9430104, not a parking pin.

Primary hazards

Watch surge, boat traffic, and slippery rock. Crossing the Chetco bar is a boat-safety decision, not a scored Current Coastal Rating.

Fishery considerations

  • There is no NWLON / live CO-OPS observation identity at Chetco. Do not use Crescent City 9419750 as DIRECT Chetco tide.
  • Wind and swell can make the Chetco bar and jetties unsafe even when predicted tides look usable.

Regulations

Size limits, seasons, and possession rules change. Verify the current official regulations before fishing.

Planning limitation

Coastal conditions can vary over short distances. Predictions and remote observations are planning information, not guarantees of access or safety.

  • Public Oregon coastal catalog identity. Customer Current Coastal Rating is Calibration in progress under the accepted FAST-CAL / PNW FAST-B program. PACIFIC_NORTHWEST_V1 is not accepted. Coastal Estimated is unauthorized. The PNW public-beta rating flag remains off.
  • Do not use Crescent City 9419750 as DIRECT Chetco tide.
  • Catalog coordinates are that NOAA prediction station.
