Access
Public shore fishing exists at the South Padre jetties via Cameron County Isla Blanca Park at the south end of South Padre Island. Boat anglers work both faces of the pass. Confirm current park entry, parking, and navigation postings.
Primary hazards
Strong current, ship traffic, slick granite, and breaking water at the Gulf mouth are the primary hazards. Boat anglers should not pull an anchor near the rocks without the engine running. Heat, lightning, and stingrays in adjacent shallows are routine Lower Coast risks.
Fishery considerations
Tidal current through Brazos Santiago Pass is the local fishing context. NOAA interval predictions for the pass describe that exchange; use them as timing for the pass. Laguna Madre tidal range is small, so exchange can concentrate in the pass.
Wind and Gulf swell can make the jetties unsafe even when the inner lagoon looks calm. A local wave reading is not available here.
