Access, Safety and Regulations
Access
The Gulf jetties originate in marsh and ship-channel water. Public boat access is from Sabine Pass and Pleasure Island launches, including Walter Umphrey State Park. A public pedestrian walkway on the Gulf jetties is not listed. Confirm current ramp, park, and navigation postings before launching.
Primary hazards
Strong tidal current, commercial ship traffic, and granite structure are the primary hazards. Never pull an anchor near the jetties without the engine running. Slippery rock, wakes, and limited help make swimming off the jetties unsafe. Heat and thunderstorms are routine Upper Coast risks.
